Reproductions
Terms and conditions for the request of photocopies
The reproduction in photocopy form of Library material is allowed for study reasons only and then only in conformity with the current copyright regulations (Law n.248/2000):
Reproduction is permitted of not more than 15% of each volume or issue of a periodical, excluding those pages devoted to advertising. This quota above can be exceeded only in the case of rare works not included in the editorial catalogues, in which case a document of self-certification to this effect must be furnished by the user.
In order to safeguard the bibliographic resource of the Library the following may not be photocopied:
- Printed works before 1900
- Newspapers
- Over-sized works (larger than cm 35x25)
- Works that form part of the Reference resource of the Reading Rooms and are therefore reserved for that purpose (dictionaries, encyclopedias, catalogues…)
- Works belonging to the historical collections of the Library
- Any other work whose state of preservation precludes this form of reproduction (volumes with damaged binding or types of binding which do not permit the book to be opened fully, very fine works, including modern material, works with illustrated plates, maps or folded papers exceeding the size of the volume itself)
For the reproduction of manuscripts and other materials that may not be photocopied, other means of reproduction including the taking of microfilms, photographs and slides are acceptable.
Procedure
Photocopies can only be made on Library premises. <br> <br>The requests, made by the readers on the appropriate forms, must be authorized by the librarian in charge in the Manuscripts Room, for texts to be read there; all other requests should be addressed to the person in charge of the particular reference room in question (Bibliographic reference rooms, the sections housing specialized books, Reading Rooms etc)
Readers are to handle library material with the greatest care at all stages of the process of reproduction and are asked not to manhandle photocopiers in the event of technical problems, but to seek help from the person responsible for their normal maintenance.
Tariffs:
1 photocopy: Euro 0.07
A vending machine in the library sells magnetic swipe cards at a cost of Euro 0.79 each.
Requests for photocopies can also be made by post following the procedures outlined in the section entitled Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery.
Microfilms, photographs and slides:
Requests for photographic or microfilm reproduction of manuscripts or printed works can be made either by using the appropriate forms made available to users in reference rooms, or by letter, providing the information necessary to identify the book to be reproduced (reference, author or title), the parts of the work to be copied, the type of reproduction required, and the use to be made of the reproduction.

Reproducing modern materials

The Library does not have its own internal photographic facilities and such work is currently carried out by an outside supplier, whose prices are given below.
Reproduction for study purposes:
Payment for the costs of reproduction alone is required.
Reproduction for commercial purposes:
This is authorized by the Director on condition of compliance with current regulations and the payment of reproduction rights in accordance with the Tariffs set out in DM 8/4/94 (Point III).
Reproduction using personal photographic equipment:
Authority for the reproduction of books and documents belonging to the Library using personal photographic equipment rests with the Director alone. The reproduction must be carried out in accordance with current regulations and so as not to cause damage to the document. The request must be submitted on the appropriate form available in the Reference Rooms.
