The Library has three rooms spread over two floors, accommodating up to 200 users overall, with a stock of approximately 30,000 volumes on open shelves and 265 periodical titles.

The ground floor: this comprises a study room with access to general library information. Encyclopaedias, yearbooks, general and national bibliographies can all be consulted here, and there is also a wide selection of treatises and university manuals. Connected to this is a room housing library catalogues and print catalogues of the main foreign libraries.

The first floor: located here is a reference room stocked with the main reference catalogues of the various disciplines, with particular emphasis on Italian and overseas bibliographical and biographical reference books. In addition, two wall display units contain a comprehensive range of journals and other periodicals ordered according to subject.

Specialized Reference Rooms


These include a professional studies library (library and bibliographical studies), a Local Studies section , space devoted to the History of Science, disciplinary areas of traditional importance in such collections: these embrace bio-bibliographical indexes, collections of texts, essays and numerous specialized publications.

Two information and bibliographical assistance points are located on these floors.
In the first-floor Reference Room readers can make use of computer terminals to access on-line the catalogues of various important libraries, and search data banks on the net, on CD-Rom and on-line. Use of the Internet is restricted to bibliographical research. The sending of messages via electronic post is forbidden.
